During November the unit spent many hours
preparing for their Christmas Holiday the first weekend in December. Pumba
was going to be doing her holiday license at this event so the girls were
all keen to help. We stayed in a bunkhouse near Abercastle. It is a lovely
place but that weekend was very cold. The girls made lots of Christmas
items, sang songs, ate lots of food, had a great walk down to the beach,
completed their confectioners and craft badges, the gas ran out during
the Saturday evening so entertainment was provided to girls wrapped up
in sleeping bags awaiting the owners return with a new full gas cylinder.
It was fun though and a great place to hold such an event and Pumba passed
her Holiday license. |
In March the girls attended a Ugandan evening in the
Market Hall, Crymych. Rainbow guider, Hazel and brownie guider, Liz were
going with their vicar to Uganda. The girls were very interested to learn
how people live in Africa. |

It was a great opportunity when the Trefoil
Guild held a ‘Sing for your supper’ in Narberth in May especially
on a Friday evening. All the girls piled into the Green Dragon minibus
and headed for Narberth and they duly ‘Sang for their Supper’.
June 18th – Giant Sleepover. This event was organised by Simba, Guide guider Llandudoch guides for the district and 12 girls managed to attend the event. They all slept in one huge tent had a water fight, and didn’t finally go to sleep until 4a.m. They were awoken at 7.30a.m. so that they could gets their breakfast before the record breaking attempt of as many as possible cleaning their teeth at the same time. 48 girls attended the whole weekend which also raised money for Childline and our unit. Back in November our three young leaders were presented with their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at the County AGM. They also completed their Baden Powell Challenge before progressing onto seniors. The end of the summer term was spent on Newport beach collecting shells and wood so we could toast marshmallows on the beach – a favourite past time of ours. It was great to just sit and ‘chill out’ with the sun setting over the Irish Sea before we made our way back to Crymych and the awaiting parents. The girls have spent many unit meetings making things, cooking things (that were edible most of the time), playing lots of old and new games, singing, and of course having fun. They are a truly great bunch of girls. September will see us trying something new as we have quite a few older girls who still want to have their own meetings so we will be having alternate weekly meetings for guides and senior section. This will then be reviewed near to Christmas to see what everyone thinks. |
