Queen's Guide Award

The Queen's Guide Award is the highest Award within Girlguiding. It takes a lot of work and determination to complete. The last Holder in Pembrokeshire completed the Award at the end of the 1990's and so it has been a long time coming but at last someone has done it!

Beverley Wilson - Preseli District Commissioner, Webmaster of both North Pembrokeshire Divison and Preseli District Websites, Assistant Guide Guider at 1st Crymych Guides and 1st Digswell Guides (in Hertfordshire) and Preseli District Commissioner completed her Queen's Guide Award and Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award last year. We did have a celebratory BBQ last July but on March 18th Bev's 25th birthday she had a big celebration at The Trewern Arms in Nevern. Over 40 guests came from all over Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Wales. Cathryn Brooker, Chief Commissioner for Wales presented Bev with her brooch and certificate.

Beverley will be presented with her brooch & certificate at the County AGM in November.

On 24th October Beverley travelled to St. James's Palace to be awarded with her Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award. She chatted to Prince Edward during the presentation & gave a vote of thanks to Tori James for presenting all holders from Wales with their certificates. Tori James was made an ambassador for Guiding this year as she got her Gold Award in 2002 after completing it with Guides in Haverfordwest. Since then she was part of the first ever team of women (Pink Lade Polecats) to complete the Polar race to the North Magnetic Pole, and in May this year she was the youngest british woman & the first every Welsh woman to reach the summit of Everest & truly stand at the top of the world.

Beverley is currently waiting for her invitation to collect her Queen's Guide Award from the President of Girlguiding Sophie the Countess of Wessex - maybe once she has had her baby?!!! Watch this space....
